Top Five Family Tips in and around St Andrews, as suggested by Caroline Hirst, the Ambassador of the Luxury Kids Programme.

  • Kite Flying on West Sands Beach, St Andrews - the setting of the opening scene from the film ‘Chariots of Fire’ is a superb space to take children to fly kites, with its long broad sandy beach which stretches as far as the eye can see.
  • Tentsmuir Forest & Kinshaldy Beach – Tentsmuir is a popular, extensive pine forest planted on the sand dunes at the mouth of the River Tay and is a popular spot to watch the curious seals basking on the beach. Afterwards, take the children for a taster riding lesson at ‘Kinshaldy Riding Stables’ or - if feeling more adventurous - take a family pony trek through the forest tracks and return along the large expanse of sandy beach.
  • The Ceramic Experience, Cupar - develop your child’s artistic skills as they decorate plates, bowls, animals or trinket boxes. The centre also provides a soft play area and serves scrumptious food, home baking and marshmallow-topped hot chocolate.
  • The Himalayas Putting Green, St Andrews - test your putting skills on this famous green which takes its name from the mountain range, albeit on a much smaller scale! Located by the side of the Links Club House, it nestles alongside the Old Course, which is the most famous golf course in the world, and a challenging test for the budding Tiger Woods in the family. Clubs can be hired for both adults and children from the Club House.
  • The Scottish Deer Centre, Cupar - a walk on the wild side awaits you at The Scottish Deer Centre, just outside Cupar. Watch nine different species of deer in the company of experienced rangers, explore the treetop walkway, join feeding time in the wolf wood, and enjoy birds of prey demonstrations in the outdoor theatre.  There are also outdoor and indoor play areas, retail shops and a courtyard coffee shop.
