May 2008 - 65 VINTAGE MORGANS TOOK POLE POSITION AT THE OLD COURSE HOTEL, GOLF RESORT & SPA, ST ANDREWS
Client: Garage Albert (Morgan) Belgium
Venue: Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, St Andrews
The Winter Rallies is an annual event organised by Garage Albert in Belgium, the largest Morgan dealership in Europe. The owner of the garage – Thomas Stammet – invites clients who have bought at least three Morgans in the past 50 years to participate in the rally.
The objective of the rally is to encourage fun, rivalry and mutual support and – above all – provide a truly inspiring setting to discover a magnificent destination in a vintage Morgan. Over the years, then rallies have taken place in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and, latterly, Malvern Link in England, where the famous Morgan factory is located.
It was the highly-successful Malvern Link trip that inspired Thomas Stammet and his father to aim higher and an ambitious plan to achieve an 800-kilometer round trip to Scotland was born, taking in the stunning west, north and east coasts of the country’s most dramatic scenery including historic castles and stately homes.
May 2008 was the second year of the “Scottish Green Rally” which involved 65 luxury Morgans and 130 participants, and the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa hosted the finalé for the second year running. When the group discovered St Andrews, they were thrilled to complete their journey in the world-famous home of golf, feeling immediately entranced by the sheer beauty of the location, the ambience of the hotel and the stunning coastal views.
The group believed the Old Course Hotel encapsulated Scotland: the quality of the outstanding locally-sourced and high-quality cuisine at the three AA rosette Road Hole Grill; the 200 whiskies available from every operational and mothballed distillery in Scotland; and not forgetting the delights of the world-class Kohler Waters Spa with its thermal suite, 20-metre swimming pool and rooftop hot tub…the group was truly inspired.
There is no doubt the highlight of the trip for all participants – whom it must be said are “gourmands” who love the best things in life - was the final evening at the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews.
